Unmarried follows three diverse young women trying to balance their marriages, motherhood, friendships and careers. These friends also represent the diversity of South African life, from living in the township to the high life of Johannesburg’s most sought-after areas.
In season two, following Lesego's (played by Keke Mputhi) death, the ladies are asking themselves "Can I have it all?". This is especially true for Brenda who has taken over as mother to BK, Lesego's son; and Thembi who is struggling to mend the broken pieces of her relationship with Bongani. Add their eccentric and drama-filled long-lost friend Claudia to season two, and the three ladies are in for a wild ride. So, can they have it all?
The drama features SAFTA-winning actress Renate Stuurman (The River), Keke Mphuthi, best known for her role in The Throne; and Thembisa Mdoda, the SAFTA-winning star of shows like Isibaya and The Road and former presenter of reality TV show, Our Perfect Wedding.
Unmarried is brought to life by Ferguson Films, the company behind multiple award-winning shows such as The Queen, The Throne and Rockville.
According to entertainment and lifestyle news website, Quench SA, “Another win for the show is the writers prioritise authenticity. Unlike many of the new local productions, we aren’t seeing a desperate attempt at relevance by tossing around random social media references. The focus is on exploring the lives, psychologically and externally, of the characters as far as possible.”
This is what fans had to say about the show:
Unmarried makes for riveting prime time viewing and the engaging nature of the drama ensures that it is highly bingeable.
