In this hit new comedy drama, a wedding planner’s life unexpectedly changes after a freak accident. With a fresh outlook on life, she navigates the complexities of life and love while figuring out whether her perfect partner exists or not.
“Troukoors is like good champagne: light and bubbly and moreish, with a tendency to bring out people’s naughty sides,” says Candice Fangueiro, head of content at Showmax.
“It’s like Younger or The Bold Type, but set against the splendour and romance of the Cape wedding industry.”
The show is created by SAFTA winner Louis Pretorius (Best Achievement in Script in a TV Drama) and SAFTA nominee Albert Snyman. The acclaimed duo is also behind a myriad of award-winning shows like Fynskrif, Die Boland Moorde and Die Boekklub.
Troukoors is directed by the highly experienced director and actor, Nina Swart, who frequently collaborates with Pretorius and Snyman having directed 26 episodes of Fynskrif and nine episodes of Die Boekklub.
Ilse-Lee van Niekerk (4 Mure, Die Boekklub) stars in the leading role of Jessica, the wedding planner hoping to have the wedding of her dreams herself. She is part of a star-studded cast which includes Fleur du Cap nominee Bianca Flanders (Nêrens Noord-Kaap, Address Unknown), former child star Blyde Smit (Erfsondes, 7de Laan), Armand Aucamp (Die Boekklub, Krotoa), Tinarie van Wyk Loots (Dwaalster, Fynskryf, 4 Mure) as well as acting veterans Melt Sieberhagen (District 9, Flatland, Dis ek, Anna) and Kevin Smith (Arendsvlei, Skemerdans, From Dusk Till Dawn 2 and 3).
“This is the world we know as South Africans but don’t often see on TV. You’ll finish watching with a full heart,” says Flanders.
“The plot reels you in and before you know it you are attached to everyone, and you love them for their peculiarities and transgressions.” – Netwerk 24
“The casting was absolutely perfect; Ilse-Lee does a stellar job at leading and carrying this vibrant and naughty approach to local romcoms. This should be on top of everyone’s binge list this December holiday! It’s heartfelt and just pure joy to watch.” – OFM’s Renaldo Schwarp
“It is hip, current, and luxurious, and the dialogue is the cherry on the cake.” – Die Son
