A new storyline promises more thrilling drama and unexpected turns.
Season 2 of this hit telenovela started streaming on Showmax on 17 February and the first three episodes already have viewers talking. Inspired by Dudu Busani-Dube’s popular book series, The Wife has gained a reputation of offering twists and turns that no one, including fans of the book series, could ever expect.

Although the new episodes pick up where season 1 left off, season 2 puts more focus on Zandile, who has broken out of prison in the very first episode. The new episodes are largely based around the follow-up to Hlomu the Wife, Zandile the Resolute. The relationship between Zandile (portrayed by Khanyi Mbau) and Nkosana (portrayed by Mondli Makhoba) is at the heart of the new season.
“I'm happy that season 2 comes out in February, which is the month of love, because they have such a beautiful love story,” says Khanyi Mbau. “They serve couple goals from the get-go, even in prison.”
“For the viewers, one thing they'll truly enjoy is their language. Nkosana is very poetic in how he uses his words and how he relays love to her. Nkosana makes the Zulu language so romantic; he makes it sound like French.”
Local news website, News24 praises the casting choices from the last season as well as the latest episodes: “From the stars to the supporting cast, each actor brings to life their character authentically, and when we meet them, we realise why certain casting decisions were made. It makes sense for where the story is headed.”
