The River will be competing in New York against 100 Dias Para Enamorarse (100 Days to Fall in Love) from Argentina, La Reina del Flow (The Queen of Flow) from Colombia and Vidas Opostas (Tangled Lives) from Portugal.
Phathutshedzo Makwarela, co-creator and co-executive producer of the show, said “For us at the bottom of Africa to even be in that category; it's a testament that African storytelling is just as competent as the rest of the world.”
According to Bruce L. Paisner, President and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, “the diversity, geographic spread and quality of this year's Nominees is a testament to the increasing wealth of outstanding television being created on a global scale.”
This year’s International Emmy’s will take place on November 25, 2019 in New York.
The River is addictive and compelling viewing led by a strong-willed, powerful and complex woman. Her determination to maintain her self-made wealth and the extreme lengths she goes to in order to protect her family are the catalysts for the tension between rich and poor.
The lies and betrayal that are frequent themes in this brilliant telenovela are presented through exquisite cinematography, gripping script-writing and extremely talented performances that have seen the series go from strength-to-strength.
