The story kicks off with a fraud and corruption trial of disgraced former President Zondo and the money he stands accused of pilfering which was meant for a group of incensed residents.
The new female President Lufuno (played by acting stalwart Florence Masebe) finds herself at the forefront of a political clean-up and she is determined to make things right. She is unforgiving in her promise to get back what was meant for the people.
At exactly the same time that the disgraced former President is found guilty on all charges, President Lufuno is addressing the local community. Mid-speech, she is kidnapped and held hostage by a guerrilla group demanding the government pay back their money.
What viewers will find out is that the convicted former President is involved in the kidnapping and has his own plan at play. There are riots and fallen heroes, relatable villains and narrow escapes.
The Republic is must-see television that deserves prime time viewing.
