The Queen has remained one of Africa’s most thrilling and popular telenovelas by maintaining a high standard of writing, production and performances that have left audiences glued to their screens!
Across its 4 seasons, The Queen has served up a myriad of unforgettable and iconic moments that have cemented its legacy as one of the great South African telenovelas.
In the first season of the show, fans were left in complete disbelief when Brutus and Shaka tried to find out if Harriet had anything to do with their brother and father’s untimely death by torturing Mzansi’s most beloved queen.
Many iconic scenes escalate very quickly. None more than when Shaka found his fiancé, Goodness, kissing his brother in the pool. Shortly after the shocking discovery, bullets went flying as Shaka struggled to control his anger.
Tasteful crossovers have become increasingly popular and common in the television industry. In the third season of the show, The Queen has a memorable crossover with another award-winning telenovela, The River. Lindiwe Dikane and Mathaphelo Harriet Khoza get each other out of a bind and meet up to toast their friendship. This quickly became one of the most talked about moments in African television history!
Last but not least, one of the most recent moments that shocked the show’s vast fanbase was when T-Gom agreed to be Dollar’s second wife and in a fit of rage and anger, Nomzamo got her last word in by beating Gracious with Dollar’s gold crusted walking stick.
Channel 24 described The Queen as “everything that the new generation of South African television production can and should be.”
