This brand-new docuseries investigates the facts and questions surrounding one of the biggest serial killer cases in the history of South Africa.
From the late 80s to the early 90s, the so-called Station Strangler is believed to have killed 21 young boys and one adult on the Cape Flats. After a massive investigation, Norman Simons, a schoolteacher, was arrested and questioned about the murders. Simons was ultimately convicted of only one of these murders, leaving many questions unanswered. Twenty-eight years later he is released on parole, sparking outrage and reopening the conversation regarding these horrific crimes.
The Station Strangler is the latest true crime documentary from IdeaCandy (Tracking Thabo Bester, Devilsdorp) and features interviews with family members of victims, the lead investigator on the case, renowned serial killer profiler Micki Pistorius, and many more.
The series is directed by Nadine Cloete, who won the Audience Award at Encounters for Action Kommandant and also received a SAFTA for Best Short Film with her short Address Unknown.
“By reliving the fear, anger, and helplessness that surrounded the Station Strangler's crimes, The Station Strangler serves as a powerful piece of true crime storytelling and a tribute to the resilience of those affected.” – IOL
