Champions follows the story of an ambitious woman who runs an otherwise male-dominated football empire.
After sudden changes in her father’s life, Sne Modise must face a long list of personal obstacles while trying to bring greatness to a team regarded as underdogs. These problems also come with opportunities for Sne to challenge gender norms and prove that she is the right person to take the club into a new era.
Other main characters include Sne’s father Washington Modise who breathed new life into the football club with the support of his equally ambitious wife Lucinda Modise and his jealous brother Philemon, renowned talent manager Zipho and star player Ferrari whose career seems to be on the decline.
The impressive cast of the thrilling new telenovela is led by Jo-Anne Reyneke (Isidingo, Black Tax) and stars several veteran actors like Sello Maake ka-Ncube (Reyka, The Herd, The River), Tumisho Masha (The Wild, Silverton Siege, Blood & Water) and Kgomotso Christopher (Legacy, Fatal Seduction, Isidingo). The show also features newcomers Rethabile Mohapi and Minkie Malatji, who made her breakthrough with The River.
