Shaka iLembe is officially the most-awarded drama series in the history of the South African Film & Television Awards.
Shaka iLembe, which is MultiChoice’s most expensive TV series to date, secured an incredible 12 awards at this year’s SAFTAs. The hit drama swept the technical awards and rounded off their astounding streak by picking up the award for Best Drama Series. A second season of the critically acclaimed show has also officially been confirmed.
In total, MultiChoice won 46 awards across several genres including reality, scripted, doccie, and lifestyle programming. Outlaws won eight awards including Best Telenovela, while Binnelanders was the most-awarded soapie with three SAFTAs including Best Actor in a Telenovela for Germandt Geldenhuys.
Elsewhere, Kokkedoor: Vuur & Vlam won Best Competition Reality Show and Koppestamp won Best Entertainment Programme. Lioness’s Shannon Esra was another big winner at the main awards with her award for Best Actress in a TV Drama. Presley Chweneyagae (The River) took the award for Best Actor in a Telenovela and Zikhona Sodlaka (Gqeberha: The Empire) won Best Actress in a Telenovela.
