Diepe Waters is a brand-new telenovela centred around a successful and highly competitive swimming club, where nothing less than perfection is acceptable. The swimming club is a family business with a legacy to protect above the surface, and secrets to quell beneath it.
The cast of this spicy new series includes illustrious figures in the South African film and television industry spearheaded by SAFTA winner (Best Supporting Actor in a TV Soap) and current head of the drama department at the prestigious AFDA, the School for the Creative Economy, Justin Strydom.
The accomplished actor is joined by Silwerskermfees Best Actress winner, Lea Vivier (Wonderlus, Dam, Ludik), Nadia Valvekens (Alles Malan, Binnelanders), Sandi Schultz (Blood & Water, Trackers, Die Spreeus), Lizz Meiring (Ludik, Spoorloos), Neels van Jaarsveld (Griekwastad, Poppie Nongena, Waterfront) and more.
The telenovela also debuts several young actors who all worked extensively with professional swimming coaches before the show started filming.
Diepe Waters serves up major drama from the first episode. The head of the swimming club, Gys (Strydom), breaks down young swimmers when they’re not performing at their best, and he doesn’t even spare his own granddaughter the same despicable treatment.
His young new wife is subject to dagger-like stares, relentless gossip, and jaw-dropping moments like receiving a knife as a gift from Gys’ ex-wife with the message: “You already know how to use this, right?”
