Desert Rose is set in the heart of the Namaqualand desert in South Africa’s Northern Cape province. After their father abandoned them and disappears, the Greyling family are left to settle their missing father’s debt. With a ruthless debt collector on their tail, the family have to find their father fast; or find a way to come up with the money!
Legendary South African actor Neil Sandilands, who has starred in an array of international hits including Sweet Tooth, The 100, The Flash, News of the World, Hap and Leonard, plays the Greyling’s father. He also wrote and performed much of the music in the series accompanied by Theo Crous and Georgio Frazer Barry. He is joined by an impressive cast including Tinarie van Wyk-Loots (Fynskrif, Dwaalster, 4 Mure, Kanarie), Brendon Daniels (Five Fingers for Marseilles, Sara se Geheim, Flatland, Skemerdans), Kai Luke Brümmer (Moffie, The Kissing Booth), Christia Visser (Die Boekklub) and Ben Voss (Spud, Spud 3, Beyond the River).
Desert Rose comes from Quizzical Pictures, the studio behind The Girl From St. Agnes, Reyka and iNumber Number. Cannes Palme d'Or nominee Rohan Dickson (Reyka, Husk, Welcome to Hawaii) acts as the showrunner while SAFTA nominee Cindy Lee (The Girl From St. Agnes) directs the series.
The series is full of unusual characters and mixes suspense with black comedy, romance and crime which is sure to satisfy any viewer looking for something new in the thriller genre.
