Season 2 of the hit Showmax thriller will launch on 16 February 2023.
The first season of DAM received rave reviews in addition to an incredible 11 nominations at the 2022 SAFTA awards, which earned the show 2 wins on the night. Showmax also announced that DAM was one of the top 10 most-streamed shows on the platform in 2021, beating several international hits and leaving audiences hoping for a second installment.
Two years after its release, four-time SAFTA winner Alex Yazbek (The Wild, Unmarried) is bringing the psychological thriller back to the screen with loads more questions to be answered.
“This show remains unlike anything else on TV in South Africa,” says Alex Yazbek. “It’s going to be another twisty and twisted season of love triangles, monsters, and more suppressed memories being uncovered.”
In a press statement, Showmax gave viewers an idea of what to expect in the second season:
"Season 2 is set three months after the Spring Festival. The cult's ritual sacrifice seems to have worked: rain has come and transformed the land. Meanwhile, Yola has no memory of anything since her return for her father's funeral. Can she put the missing pieces together as diamonds are discovered, a mass grave is uncovered, and a monster surfaces in the dam?"

Lea Vivier (Wonderlus, Ludik) and Pallance Dladla (Shadow, Isibaya) will reprise their SAFTA-nominated roles as Yola and Themba, while SAFTA winners Antoinette Louw (An Act of Defiance, The Story of Racheltjie De Beer) and Tarryn Wyngaard (Dwaalster, Raised by Wolves), as well as Fleur du Cap winner Faniswa Yisa (Knuckle City, Blood Psalms), are also among the returning cast members.
Natasha Loring, who won a SAFTA for her role as Yola’s sister, Sienna, will also be back for the second season:
"In Season 1, I was responsible for putting my sister into a psychiatric hospital, so I am dealing with that guilt. Sienna's journey this season is not only about finding out where her sister is and what has happened to her, although that is the driving force. It's also about trying to take responsibility for many of the hard truths I found out about my family and the town I'm living in. I'm trying to take ownership of who I am and find my voice and freedom."
Several users have also taken to Twitter to praise the show:
“Is such a beautiful show. I’ve been wishing for a psycho thriller of this magnitude set in SA.”
“Watched it yesterday. Glad I watched it during the day.”
“OK. #DAMShowmax is dark. Like wow. I never experridit.”
