Legacy will be on screens in South Africa from September 2020. It is set to thrill viewers with a daily dose of drama.
This telenovela has been commissioned by M-Net and follows in the footsteps of their recent hit dramas Trackers and Still Breathing.
Legacy focuses on the Price family and the empire that has been built by the patriarch of the family. As he closes in on retirement, a battle for his ‘crown’ erupts. His eldest daughter feels that the position of CEO belongs to her, however her playboy half-brother shares the same feeling.
“Imagine the Machiavellian mega-rich characters living dysfunctional lives in the award-winning HBO series Succession in a fresh, distinctly South African context," says Jan du Plessis, Director: M-Net Channels. "Add a daily dose of The Bold and the Beautiful, colour the concoction with pure escapism in the topical and aspirational style of the best Brazilian telenovelas, and you have Legacy in a nutshell.”
Keeping on trend with recent high-quality exports, Legacy has recruited a stellar cast filled with award-winning South African talent.
Deon Lotz plays the role of the patriarch, Sebastian Price. Lotz is a legend of screen and stage, best known for his role in South Africa’s 2011 Academy Award entry, Skoonheid as well as the internationally renowned film, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Kgomotso Christopher, SAFTA-winning actress, will portray the role of Sebastian’s second wife. Meanwhile, Michelle Botes (Binnelanders, Isidingo) will play Price’s bitter ex-wife. Mary-Anne Barlow will be the ‘love to hate’ villain of the series as she play the role of Price’s eldest daughter. This popular actress has also scooped a SAFTA for her role in South Africa’s multi award-winning telenovela, The River. She also starred in the iconic South African soap Egoli as well the British drama, Wild At Heart.
The cast also includes notable actors Don Mlangeni Nawa (The River and The Throne) Sean-Marco Vorster (Alles Malan), Trix Vivier (Trackers) , Anton David Jeftha (Homeland, Strike Back and Dominion) and Dawid Minaar (Fiela se Kind, Poppie Nongena, Waterfront and Binnelanders).
Legacy is being produced by the multiple award-winning production company Tshedza Pictures, the company behind The River and The Republic.
