4 Mure is an anthology drama in which characters, who stay in a specific hotel room, never come out unscathed.
The show features five episodes that span across five different genres. The only connection between the characters, who briefly inhabit the room, is the charming yet somewhat incompetent hotel cleaner who attempts to guide these characters through their struggles.
4 Mure is directed by Jaco Bouwer, the acclaimed director of shows like Die Spreeus and Dwaalster. More recently, Bouwer has directed the Showmax original horror film Rage as well as Gaia, a fantasy horror film that premiered at this year’s SXSW festival. It has been likened to iconic horror films such as Annihilation and The Blair Witch Project by the online publication, Elements of Madness.
The show is written by Bouwer’s longtime collaborator, Tertius Kapp, the South Africa Film and Television Awards [SAFTA] winning writer of Dis Ek, Anna. Kapp was the screenwriter on many of Bouwer’s projects, including Die Spreeus and Gaia. He also wrote the screenplay for the acclaimed SAFTA-nominated film, Griekwastad and directed the short film, Ek Het Jou Gemaak.
The only recurring character, Marcelina, is portrayed by iconic actress, Lida Botha (Vita Film Award-winning actress of Fiela se Kind). With more than 60 acting credits to her name, Botha is one of the most recognizable faces in South African film, television and theatre. These credits include Invictus, Suidooster, Donkerland, Kanarie and much more.
The rest of the cast also features a myriad of well-known actors, including Silwerskermfees award-winner for his role in Wonderlus, Beer Adriaanse. Adriaanse also starred in multiple SAFTA-winning productions like Kanarie, Fynskrif and more. The cast also includes Carel Nel (Dwaalster, Ekstra Medium and hit HBO show, Raised by Wolves), Tinarie van Wyk Loots (Fynskrif, Dwaalster, Kanarie) and Tarryn Wyngaard, star of international shows like The Watch and Raised by Wolves as well as multiple hit local productions, including Arendsvlei, Dwaalster and Waterfront.
“This is edgy Afrikaans with a foreign, subtitled, indie look and feel to it. It’s got an air of Wes Anderson in its visual representation (including yellow subtitles) and maybe even a hint of Ryan Murphy in the styling. The storylines bubble with that Black Mirror type of secrecy that feels fresh, clever, and unexpected.” – News 24
